JOB SUMMARY
The Principal is an instructional leader with a deep understanding of teaching and learning in the twenty-first century and the school’s responsibility to prepare students for success in a rapidly changing global society.
We are seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Successful experience as a principal, principal intern, assistant principal, or teacher leader who holds a valid teaching and administrative certificate
- Demonstrated results in raising student achievement and implementing effective intervention strategies
- Experience transforming a team or organizational unit
- Experience using the state-approved 5D Teacher Evaluation Framework
- Strong background in literacy instruction
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards
- Maintain a clear focus on student learning guided by relevant and timely achievement data
- Promote collaboration and shared leadership focused on effective teaching practices
- Support the implementation of best instructional practices to improve student achievement
- Observe classrooms regularly, provide feedback to teachers, and support connections between district initiatives and classroom instruction
- Model effective instructional leadership and a commitment to continuous learning
- Establish clear, measurable goals focused on improving learning for all students
- Build and sustain a professional culture in which teacher teams collaborate regularly to:
- Establish essential learning goals
- Develop common formative assessments
- Examine student work
- Provide intervention and enrichment in a continuous cycle of improvement
- Provide clear, ongoing evaluations aligned with the district’s teacher evaluation model
- Create leadership and recognition opportunities for high-performing staff and address performance concerns when standards are not met
- Develop systems that support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, understanding, and mutual respect
- Engage parents and families as partners in student learning
- Respond to stakeholder concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Seek and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to improve professional practice
- Model and facilitate the use of multiple forms of student-level data to guide instructional decisions and close achievement gaps
- Assign teachers to classrooms and students to classes
- Participate in district-wide activities, professional development, and committees as appropriate
- Implement policies and procedural changes from the Board of Education and state and federal agencies at the building level
- Maintain current knowledge of legal and financial developments in educational legislation
- Maintain appropriate certification by completing required coursework (6 credit hours or 18 CEUs every five years)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in education or a related field
- Experience with RTI/MTSS and evidence-based instructional practices
- Experience using data to drive student achievement and school improvement
- Experience with PBIS and Leader in Me programs, including development and revision based on building needs
- Demonstrated visionary leadership with the ability to execute strategic goals
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a minimum of five years of teaching experience and a valid Michigan Administrator Certificate for grades 6-8
